Johnsonville Elects New Mayor and Three City Councilmen

The Florence County Board of Elections & Voter Registration has confirmed election results for the City of Johnsonville.  Johnny Hanna has been elected Mayor and Frankie Poston and Dennis Bailey have been elected to City Council for terms of four years.  Gary Arthurs has been re-elected to another four-year term on Council.

Johnny Hanna and his family have lived in Johnsonville for over 30 years.  His wife, Sheila, is a teacher in the exceptional Johnsonville School System.  All three of his children graduated from Johnsonville High School.  Johnny has spent the greater part of his professional career in sales and has served several terms as Mayor Pro Tempore.  

Johnny chairs the Water and Sewer Committee and serves on the Parks and Recreation, Administration, and Planning & Economic Development committees.   He is a member of the Johnsonville Area Chamber of Commerce and is an avid outdoorsman.

James Franklin “Frankie” Poston was born in Salem South Carolina.  A 1973 graduate of Hannah-Pamplico High School, he is the son of Mayo and Eva Poston.  Frankie has three daughters: Erin Poston, Jami Foxworth, and Carly Poston.  He had three grandsons and one granddaughter.   Frankie worked as an electrician for 40 years and coached recreational softball at Prosser field.

 Dennis Bailey is originally from Laurens, S.C. and earned a Bachelor of Science degree at Newberry College.  He served his country in the United States Army for 13 years and fought in the Desert Storm and Desert Shield conflicts.  Dennis has served in ministry in various capacities all over the United States for over 25 years.  Currently he is Pastor of the Johnsonville Church of God.  

Dennis and his wife, Shari, have been married for 30 years. Together they have two sons, Justin and Jonah.  Jonah and his wife, Mikayla, have given Dennis and Shari three beautiful granddaughters.

Gary Arthurs is a 1977 graduate on North Carolina State University, and a 2004 graduate of Coastal Carolina University. He and his wife Janet, moved to Johnsonville in February, 1978, when he was hired as the Green Superintendent of The Wellman Club. In 1983, Gary was promoted to Wellman Club Manager after the retirement of Crawford Gillette. Later that year, he applied for membership in the PGA of America and earned his Class A membership in 1988.  In 2005, he started Southern Lawns and Landscapes, and in 2012 opened a garden center. He retired in May, 2017.  Gary and Janet have 2 children, Kristen and Thomas Hanna of Murrells Inlet, and Vance and Mary Elizabeth Arthurs of Greer, SC. They have 2 grandchildren, Hayden (4) and Hank (2) Hanna. 

 
He serves as chairman of the Administrative Committee and the Parks and Recreation Committee and is a member of the Finance Committee.  Gary has been involved in the new Vox water project as well as efforts to re-open the former Wellman Club.

The election was held Tuesday, November 5 and the results were confirmed on November 7.  Johnny Hanna and the three Councilmen will be sworn in later this month.
